Fallout: New Vegas to be entirely in pastel colors

Postby Damnightmare » Fri Sep 04, 2009 12:20 am

Rockville, MD. Bethesda announced today that the next Fallout game, New Vegas, will be created entirely in a pastel color palette.

"We had really thought that browns and grays were crucial to capturing the very essence of a post-apocalyptic landscape, but after reading many complaints in Kotaku forums about the limited color palette of Fallout 3, we have realized that we were dead fucking wrong," Bethesda's President of Marketing, Ted Sandill, said.

"We're going to add tons of rainbows, frolicking puppies, playful kittens, and cuddly bunnies to New Vegas. Maybe some majestic unicorns. We will also change the colors of weapons and accessories. Power armor, for example, will now be exclusive mauve. That should really push the color palette to broader horizons and strengthen the impression of total nuclear armageddon," Sandill added.

Sandill said that Bethesda is enlisting Paas and Lisa Frank to make sure that New Vegas turns out to be the product that choosy gamers really desire.

Haha! The way it was described made it sound like a joke, but if they didn't cartoon it up, I'd love to see a pastel color palette. The pages of Bite Club came to mind.

This is all because of the complaints people made over Diablo III.

Odds are it was a joke xD

But the headline says differently and this article was posted as news elsewhere. I found it hilarious lol

Obviously, Ted was expressing sarcasm when he said this. I believe he plans to make New Vegas just as dark and desolate as the rest of the Fallout world. Seriously, how many of those neon lights in Vegas would still be working after a nuclear fallout? Probably not too many on the exterior, but enough to make it recognizable.

What? The artical says, "many complaints in Kotaku forums about the limited color palette of Fallout 3".
Where does Diablo fit into all this?

Arte and I were talking about how great it would be if it stuck with the look we've come to expect, but had a slider in the options menu for pastel colors.

It sounded like a joke when I read it the first time, but now the more I read over that, the more I want to see it.

Doesn't anyone follow gaming news? :P

When the first screenshots were released for Diablo III there was an outcry of complaints because it wasn't dark enough or gothic enough.

People compared the lighter colour palette to that of Rainbows and Unicorns. If you google Diablo III you'll find a lot of articles detailing this like this one. It even grew to the point of people making T-Shirts to make fun of those who complained that it wasn't dark enough.

Thats where Bethesda is getting all this from.

@ DSight - Sorry, I don't follow pc gaming anymore, so I didn't know about the whole Diablo thing. Funny article though!
@ Aiko - You could always hook it up to a high-end monitor and change the color out-put to negative! I'm sure that would bring out some pastels!

The lack of variety in the landscape was my only real major gripe with Fallout 3, though I'll pick up the GOTY on PS3 just to kill Aliens, I have a deep seeded hatred of aliens that most of you I pray never understand.

We just now got the GOTY with content. I don't know if I'll double dip for full price.

Considering it's cheaper than if you got all DLC separately and had the game at the full sixty dollar price tag.

I'll advise you unless you absolutely love Fallout 3 NOT to get the DLC.

Only 2 out of the 5 were good. The rest are short 2-3 hour crunched content, and there is little to no freeroaming that I was expecting. ESPECIALLY with Anchorage, that and the Mothership were terrible.

Here's a tidbit of information on this game. Bethesda is not in charge of developing Fallout : New Vegas, instead it is publishing it for the actual development studio, Obsidian Entertainment.

You might remember the developers at OEI from Black Isle, y'know, the people that made Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, oh, and the original Fallout.

I knew it wasn't being handled by Bethesda, even though they are overlooking the development.

I really wanna see what Obsidian does though, as I've played the original Fallout back when and where and I absolutely loved the first game. I also saw that cancelled Fallout MMO, looked decent.

I'm not going to fault them for Kotor II, and NWN2. Both titles back-to-back were undermined by poor publisher timing which caused the cut in content, bugs, and other assortments.
